Tall Ladies If you have a tall frame, you can pretty much get away with just about any type of gown. Most gowns are made long so length is usually not a problem, the only problem you may run into is when the gown you like has long sleeves that are not long enough (that's if you have long arms). If you don't want to appear taller than you already are, stay away from gowns that cling to the body too much and of course avoid very high heels (you don't want to tower over your husband!). a sheath gown which are straight up and down will show off your figure and is very slimming, tall and thin ladies are the only ones who can pull this off, so have fun! Little Brides It's always a challenge to shop for any clothes if your under 5'2, a wedding gown just doubles the frustration. Most gowns are made long to accommodate taller brides, it's much easier to take the dress up than to add more length. If possible. bring the shoes you'll be wearing on your wedding day shopping with you, or if you purchase your shoes after your dress, always bring them to the fitting so they will know how much needs to be taken up. The best dresses for little brides are ones that emphasize your best features while making you appear taller. A simple A-line dress with not too many frills works great, a sweetheart neckline will also give the appearance of length by drawing the eye down. Avoid puffiness around the arm/shoulder area, too much will swallow up a petite frame. Also give thought to your headpiece, you don't want too long of a veil, it will make you look shorter and over power your face, try to go for a shoulder length or just below your shoulders. Avoid anything that goes past the waist. Flower wreaths are very pretty and look great on little brides! Keep in mind also the frames of your bridesmaids, if any are petite, stick with simple but elegant gown shapes. Thick waisted Ladies Thick waisted ladies look best in gowns with a high waist, these gowns are called empire gowns. The waist of an empire gown starts just below the bust line and gradually go into an A-line skirt. Avoid any gowns with a natural waistline that emphasizes the waist. For pear shapes Pear shaped woman have smaller on the top and bigger on the bottom body shapes. If this is you, a full ball gown is a great gown for you! It will accentuate your waist line and draw the eye to the smaller upper body. A sheath gown would be a no-no, this gown will only emphasize the heavier lower body. Remember that it's your day and you want to look great and be comfortable! |
