Before you go dress shopping it's always a good idea to have something in mind, look through some wedding magazines, a catalog or online and bring pictures of gowns you like along. I knew pretty much what I wanted and it really made it a lot easier. Keep in mind your height and also what kind of shoes you'll be wearing. Shoes are an important factor, make sure you'll be comfortable and able to walk ok in them, remember that you'll be wearing them for hours and standing pretty much all day. The important thing to finding comfortable wedding shoes is to consider it's heel. The higher the heel, the more stress you put on your back. I made the mistake of getting a heel that was a bit too high, I wasn't used to heels so I was afraid of tripping all day and my back was killing me, but I thought because I was so short that it would be worth it, I ended up taking them off during the reception. A friend of mine got a cute pair of satin flats and was very comfortable all day, so look into that if comfort is a priority. Like I said before, purchase your shoes before your dress if possible or bring them along to your fitting. At least two weeks before the wedding start wearing your shoes around the house. An hour at first, then slowly increase the time at three day intervals leading up to the day. That is to break them in, so you get familiar with your shoes. When you try on dresses wear easy to take on and off clothes, you don't want to be unbuckling and unbuttoning a million times. Also, if possible wear a similar bra and undergarments that you'll be wearing on your wedding day, some places can sew bra's right into your gown for a good fit. If you want a train, keep in mind the bustling that will have to be done, and going to the ladies room with a long train can be challenging. Some gowns have a detachable train that you can take off anytime, I definitely recommend these! Some women have a dress that was their mothers, or even grandmothers, I think this is wonderful! My mothers dress unfortunately got ruined during a move to another state, otherwise I would have definitely worn it. If your lucky enough to have a dress that was your mothers that you like, it will more than likely need to be altered unless your the same exact size as your mom. Make sure you do this a month or more ahead of time so you won't get stressed out about it not being done in time. Consider also the time of year and whether you'll be getting married inside or outside, summer and early fall weddings call for a lighter material, maybe a spaghetti strap gown, sleeveless or strapless one with or without a shawl or wrap. I had a spaghetti strapped gown and my wedding was in October, thankfully the weather was beautiful so we were able to be married outdoors. You'll have to think about what colors your bridesmaids will wear too, try to pick a flattering color, if you have a redheaded bridesmaid, you don't want her in bright red, colors that look good on any skin tones such as blues, deep purples and greens are your best bet. Also, remember to pick a style that all your bridesmaids will look good in no matter their body shapes and get them early enough to allow time for alterations. All in all, dress hunting should be exciting and fun, before you know it your wedding day will be here and it'll be all worth it! Visit My Amazon Store Wedding Odds & Ends!
